Biography
Matt Loveridge grew up in several different cities throughout Utah giving him the chance to explore many farms, creeks, vacant lots, and neighborhoods. Humor and imagination have always been very important to Matt. Growing up the middle child of eight kids has helped him to develop both.
.
Matt likes to draw subjects that expose the lighter side of life. His favorite subjects to illustrate are animals, children, and elderly people. For Matt writing and illustrating children’s books is one of the few jobs where he can communicate a message to others and have fun doing it. Matt loves what he does.
Matt lives in Utah with his beautiful, supportive wife and their rambunctious kids who are a constant source of inspiration. When he’s not painting or drawing, Matt enjoys being in the outdoors with his family camping, hiking, horseback riding, and fishing.
More about Matt:
What were you like as a kid?
Shy. I've always been very active (18 broken bones so far) building forts in the woods, digging giant pits,
or wading down the river, but I’ve always been fairly quiet. I like to think of myself as a silent observer.
When did you know you wanted to be an Illustrator?
I’ve always liked to draw. I still remember my mom complimenting me on a drawing of a deer.
That's the first memory I have of thinking that I was good at something. After High school I met
Kevin Hawkes and talked to him about Illustration. After learning that you could make a living
drawing and painting, my mind was made up.
How many cities have you lived in?
My family moved around a lot when I was a kid. Before I graduated High school I’d lived in
10 cities. My current total stands at 19 cities in 4 states (Utah, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine).
(Delta, Mona, Mount Pleasant, Laketown, Wallsburg, Orem, Moroni, Fairview, Provo, Indianolla, Rutland,
Wolfboro, Concord, West Lebanon, South Portland, Lamoille Valley, Elk Ridge, Lindon, Pleasant Grove)
What is your favorite color?
It’s nearly impossible to pick one favorite color, but I do use a lot of diaxozine purple.
It works great for mixing with other colors and in shadows & under-paintings. It’s very versatile.
What’s the most interesting thing that people don’t know about you?
When I was born I weighed 13 lbs 15 oz. That usually gets a good response from
people (especially moms). I thank my saintly mother that I made it to this earth.
